Difference between competitive and envious

Last night my husband and I were discussing about certain people’s attitudes. I said people who are very successful in life have no reason to be envious of other people’s wealth or success. They themselves have been blessed with affluence so they should be contented. At first I used the word competitive. I described those people as competitive kasi. He said I was wrong.
E—–“Mali ka dyan. Pinaganda mo pa ang tawag, competitive to sound diplomatic. Ang totoo envious sila. Naiinggit. Ang mga taong inggitero, kahit mahirap maiingiit pa rin sila sa mas mahirap sa kanila. Kahit ultra rich, kung mga inggitero talaga, kahit mas mayaman pa sila, maiinggit pa rin sila”.
He further added that financial stature has nothing to do with their ugali.
A—–“Ugali na talaga nila”.
He’s right. No matter what their status in life is, inggitero persons will always find something to feel envious about.
So there you go, tama si Mister Yee. Kung ang tao ay natural na inggitero, kahit ano ang marating nila sa buhay, maiinggit pa rin sila sa ibang tao, kahit mas mayaman pa sila”.

Sometimes we use the expression “I’m envious”. This is just a literal expression and it’s not the kind of attitude that I was referring to. Even my daughter uses that expression sometimes so there’s nothing wrong with that. My husband and I were talking about the deep-seated envy, not just an expression.

I posted my thoughts about envy because I wanted to let people know that being envious is not a good thing. I was not referring to any specific person. If you unfortunately felt alluded to, please don’t because I was only sharing my thoughts hoping to make people aware of this negative attitude.

  1. alam mo ang minsan nakakainis pa sa mga ingitero’t ingitera, gusto nilang mafeel na naiingit ka sa kanila. kundi ang tingin nila, you look down on them.
