My family didn’t want me to join the Manila Bay cruise for fear that I might get sea sick which meant I would be sick for the next few days.
I could’t say no to Maymay plus I was also excited to watch the fireworks display competition near the Mall of Asia. Up to the last minute my husband wanted me to back out but I was determined to join the cruise.

We’ve joined mini-cruises in other countries in the past and I survived them all. The two exceptionally bad incidents were 1) when a friend had a birthday cruise in Manila Bay 30 years ago, and 2) when I joined the Macao tour from HK via hydrofoil. That was long long time ago when Macao was still old, no new developments yet, no grand casinos. I got sick from the rough ride to Macao. I threw up several times and started running a fever. I hardly made it to the hotel in one piece. As soon as I entered my room at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay, I threw up, and up and up. I must have thrown up ten times. The hotel called in a doctor who sedated me. He injected tranquilizer in my behind. Before he left my room, he gave me several pockets of color coded tablets for specific purposes and gave me instructions as to when I would take them next, how many hours apart etc.
When I woke up the next afternoon, I saw the tablets on my desk but I couldn’t remember what they were for. It took three days before I fully recovered. I vouched never to go back to Macao again. Well, I have broken that promise. I went back with my family and my sister’s family maybe 8 years ago. Oh yeah, I threw up and got sick for a night after we arrived in Marco Polo Hotel in HK.

I really couldn’t say no to Maymay because I had already missed her grand birthday celebration at her party house on January 27.
The cruise was an extended birthday celebration.

I readied a white blazer thinking it would be cold in the bay area but while I was getting dressed, it was hot and humid so I grabbed a cotton blouse I just recently bought at the premium outlet. I didn’t want to be too dressy. I chose to wear a flat comfy shoes because that would be perfect on a boat.

I decided to just go casual and bring the blazer in case. I also brought a scarf in my bag.

  1. For fear of getting sick, I really avoid cruises even if they said, ships are huge or I just have to take a pill or injection for motion sickness. But there’s always this wish to experience the grandeur of cruises. Hope u had a great time.
