Continuation of The Life Story of Ron, page 3

After recovering from his heart break with Gennalyn,
he started dating Emma,  a childhood friend he bumped into while attending the Wednesday novena in Baclaran.    Emma comes from a poor family.  Nagtitinda sya ng saging sa palengke.  Ron’s mom wanted her to continue her studies syempre Ron’s mom was thinking ahead in case her son and Emma ended up together.   She tried to convince Emma to go back to school. Ron was willing to help pay for her tuition and other expenses but Emma showed no interest to pursue her studies, to graduate even from high school.   In the meantime,  Ron continued working in a cruise liner.  After 1 1/2 years,  he came home and found out that Emma already has a new boyfriend.

After several months, Ron fell in love with the gorgeous Brenda, a school mate and town mate.   Napansin ko parang ang bilis naman ni Ron ma-in love,  mabilis syang maka move on.  They became a couple and Ron was of course very proud of his new found love,  a town beauty queen.   He became the envy of his friends and town mates.

Brenda is tall, pretty and has a well proportionate figure.  She  joined a local beauty pageant and emerged as first runner -up.   Her personality and attitude completely changed after she became a beauty queen.  “Biglang naging sosyal” according to Ron.    She started acting like a rich girl and wanted nice things and started talking about something she called security favors.  Ron loved her dearly and he just ignored Brenda’s new personality and instead he focused on preparing for their future together as a couple.  He’s been saving  money and while working,  his mind was always occupied with the thought of raising a family with her, having kids and he was too excited planning for their wedding.  He was always imagining her walking down the aisle in a white flowing gown.  He already had a list of their would-be godparents,  thirteen (13) pairs in all, and secondary sponsors, flower girls, motif, etc. He wanted no less than a grand wedding for his beautiful bride Brenda.

Little did Ron know that Brenda applied to work in a foreign airline. His neighbor was the one who told him that she’s leaving soon.   Ron panicked.  He was terrified with the thought that Brenda would never come back.  His friend suggested to him to get her pregnant.  So Ron made a plan.

He brought Brenda to Anito Motel in Pasay City.  Ron was 26 years old that time and never had any sexual experience.  He was still a virgin.    After they entered the room,  he got nervous.  They both cried.  Then Brenda told him “Sige maghubad ka,  pararausin kita”.   Ron was shocked with what he heard.

Pararausin kita?”  He found her words very disrespectful not only to him as a person but also to his genuine feelings for  her.

He also remembered his promise to Brenda’s parents that “no below the belt”.   He loved Brenda dearly and respected her.  All he dreamed about  was their wedding day.  They were getting married then make love on their honeymoon.  Love not sex.

Ron was dumbfounded and offended by Brenda’s words.  He couldn’t understand why she talked like that para daw hostess.    Inilagay nya si Brenda sa dambana and didn’t want to do anything to offend her.    He was bewildered as to why she was acting as if there’s no love between them.  Ron was not after sex.  He wanted to marry her.  They left the motel with Ron’s virginity still intact.

The next day,  he went shopping with Brenda.  He told her to buy everything she wanted and needed for her travel.  He paid for everything.

Ron went back to working in a ship.   He lost communication with his girlfriend but he was always thinking about her and still hoping to marry her someday.

After a year, he met  Alice,  the mistress of his friend Jack.

Alice told Ron that Brenda already has a boyfriend from another country. Ron was devastated.  All his wedding plans, raising a family with Brenda, building her a beautiful house, came crashing down on him.  He became depressed and at the age of 27 he decided to lose his virginity which he had been reserving for Brenda.  Now that she is gone,  he felt there’s no more reason for him to preserve it for their honeymoon.    His first experience was with a Brazilian lap top dancer he met at a club while their ship made a short stop in Brazil.    He paid her $50.  He said he was nakatulala and nahihiya sya nung huhubaran na sya.

After meeting other women,  and burying his head in his job,  his heart was still longing for Brenda.  “Mahal na mahal ko pa rin si Brenda.  Lagi ko syang naiisip”.   He made a decision to look for her.    He went back to their town looking for her.  His heart exploded in despair when his cousin told him that Brenda was already getting married to the pilot.

After a few days, he saw Brenda at his cousin’s birthday party.   He wanted to speak to her to clarify things.  Her relatives prevented him from speaking to her.  They told him never to get near her again.    “Ayaw namin sa’yo kasi seaman ka lang”.   They also said that seamen are known to be babaero according to them.

Ron insisted on speaking to her parents to thank them for treating him nicely but her cousins and brothers threatened to harm him.  Ron’s family friend was a congressman and he sent ten bodyguards to accompany Ron to Brenda’s house.    Ron entered the compound and was able to speak to her parents.  He thanked them and said goodbye.  He didn’t speak to Brenda.

The day before her wedding,  Ron hurriedly left for the US with a bleeding heart.    That was in November  of 1994.
