Today’s our 34th wedding anniversary. As usual we exchanged no gift.
Tagal na ano? That’s quite a feat I tell you. It’s not that easy to live with the same person day in day out, night and day, rain or shine. In good times and in bad, bagyo man o umaraw dapat love nyo pa rin ang isa’t isa.
Marriage is not just about love. It’s about commitment, truckloads of patience and beyond. And where is the passion? Nay ko, when your husband removes his one ipin pustiso with matching pink ngalangala, what passion are you talking about?
The number of years we’ve been married is commensurate with the size of our bed. When we were newly married, we could fit in a twin bed but we started with a queen sized bed. It was a gift from my mom’s friend who owned a furniture store in Caloocan. A queen bed, 60″ x 80″ is big enough for two people. There’s already several inches of space in between. But after being married for 20 years, it seemed so narrow.
“Umusog ka nga, mahuhulog na ako dito. Hoy, you’re invading my space. Lagyan mo ng unan sa gitna. Eto ha? Eto ang border line, huwag kang lalampas dito. Ang init, teka nga, lumayo ka nga….teka tart malagkit”.
When we moved to our current residence in 2006, we increased the size of our bed from queen to king. King is big. It’s 80″ x 80″ and you can actually squeeze in one more adult or two kids.
After 34 years, even a king seems narrow. Next time I buy a bed, it would be wider than a king. However, there’s no single mattress that is bigger than a king and no off-the-rack bed sheets are available in the market. Maybe we will get two double beds joined together.
On our 40th wedding anniversary, we will not increase the size of our bed but we will buy two king beds and put them in two separate bedrooms. Of course on our 50th wedding anniversary, we’ll have a compound with two big houses, one for him and one for me.
