Oyen was bitten a few days ago by a black mosquito with white stripes while at our family dining area. I wasn’t sure if she was able to slap that scary thing to death.

I’ve been giving her vitamin C to strengthen her body resistance. Hydration is also an antidote.

Not all black and white mosquitoes carry the dengue virus. When a mosquito bites a person infected with a dengue virus, naturally the virus is carried by the mosquito. If that mosquito bites another person, then the virus enters the bloodstream of that person.

There are four types of dengue virus. Those that got sick of dengue could catch the virus again if the mosquito is carrying another strain. You only become immune to the type of virus that infected you but not to all the three other types.
The severity of the effects of the virus increases if you’re infected a second, third or more times.

Dengue is really scary.

If you suddenly developed a fever, drink massive amounts of fluids. On the third day go to the doctor / have your blood tested for dengue. If your blood turns out positive for dengue, you need to be confined in the hospital immediately and kailangan ka naka-dextrose. Doctors and nurses will monitor your platelet count by extracting blood every so often.

Edmund and I just came from Cardinal Santos Hospital a few hours ago. We visited the two kids of his eldest brother Edgar.

While at the intersection of Ortigas Avenue and Wilson, my husband said
“Hindi tayo nakapagdala ng OFF. Dapat meron tayong spray. Baka tayo makagat. Dapat meron tayong face mask.”
A—-“hahahaha, Dapat naka pantalon, medyas, closed shoes, long sleeves, may taklob na kulambo. Hahahah, tart, huwag na kaya tayong pumunta. Bigyan na lang natin ng beinte pesos yung guardia para iakyat itong mga mamon.”

I always have a peppermint roll-on in my purse. Before we entered the hospital, lagay-lagay kami ng peppermint. A—-“Not scientifically proven pero pang-taboy lang ng lamok.”

While we were in the room, nangangati ako feeling ko ang daming lamok, feeling ko kinakagat ako kaya pahid ako ng pahid ng Vicks and peppermint, and Kotinco. Amoy lola na ako.

Edmund’s nephew had a blood transfusion when his platelet count dropped to 22. He’s well now and ready to go home tomorrow.

The youngest in Edgar’s brood and only girl has a 39.40 fever and she’s not yet well. Her platelet count is in the 60s. I hope in a few days she’ll be able to shake-off that virus.

I saw big bottles of tawa-tawa tea at the room’s table. Edmund’s mom sent them daw. According to Ega, it’s not effective. It only serves like any other fluid, to help hydrate.

They think the mosquito came from their back neighbor’s house which is under construction.
There were two construction workers there infected with the dengue virus.

  1. Hi Ms Annie..

It would help if u have CITRONELLA (the grass type) plants in ur property, as in all corners of the house and garden.. these grass-like plants help ward off mosquitoes in the area..

Whether u were bitten or not, it still helps if u are well-hydrated, loaded with Vit. C and well-covered whenever u go out to the gardens, especially in places where the plants are so dense, and pls ask the maids to get rid of stagnant water in big plant boxes or pots, lalo na pagkatapos ng ulan, dun mas nag-ge-GENERAL ASSEMBLY ang mga MOSQUITOES of all types kc they thrive in dirty, stagnant waters, especially after the rains..

I hope Ms Oyen is ok.. take care and God bless u and the family always
