Uber ride to Rio Hotel to watch the Chippendales

Jan 25, 2018

I enjoyed Jay Leno’s one act stand-up comedy so much that after that I’ve been wanting to watch another comedy or maybe a magic show. I went to vegas.com to check out concerts, magics, etc. I wanted to watch Britney Spears but she’s on a short break and will be back in February when I am already off to Manila. I also thought of joining a bus tour to Bryce Canyon but I was still a little sick and I didn’t want to push my stamina level by going on a 14 hour bus tour to Utah.

Nakita ko Chippendales. Aha, eto na lang. It’s at the Rio Hotel where I had stayed for 10 days in November of 2016.

I bought one ticket for January 25 showing. Come Jan 25, I suddenly remembered that I had bought a ticket to Chippendales. Muntik na muntik ko ng malimutan.

It was cold and windy on that day. The wind was pushing me when I was walking to the department store. I bought a sweater and a pair of walking slip-on shoes.

I thought of not going to the Chippendales show anymore. I was still recovering from my gum infection and feeling weak and because of the effect of medication, I was having every sort of pain and discomfort. Kaya lang sayang naman ang bayad ko sa ticket.

I rested for a while and layered up to battle the wind and cold outside.

I took Uber to Rio All Suite Casino. The driver, Abdallah, is originally from Jordan. According to him Jordan is bordered by Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Palestine.

He has 6 children and was having difficulty making both ends meet while living in Los Angeles. He worked 3 jobs to pay for their $2,900 rent for a two bedroom apartment with only one bath. They moved to Las Vegas a year ago and is so far happier with the lower cost of housing. He pays $900 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. He only drives Uber up to 7 pm and goes home to his family. He doesn’t have to work two or three more jobs just to put food on the table. He is more relaxed here he said and he is able to save somewhere between $200 to $300 dollars a month. While in Los Angeles even with 3 jobs he never got to save a dollar.

His youngest son Zaid was born with down syndrome and was diagnosed with leukemia 2 years ago. The boy just finished a year and a half of treatments which included chemotherapy. He said his son could no longer talk and walk after having chemo. I told him once he recovered from the ill effects of chemo, he would be able to speak and walk again. Let’s hope and pray.
I wished him and his family a great life here in Las Vegas. May his son recover fully from cancer.
